Calcium oxide is an inorganic compound, commonly known as quicklime. It is white or grayish lump, powdery, soluble in acids, glycerin and sucrose solutions, and almost insoluble in ethanol. Calcium oxide is an alkaline oxide and is sensitive to humidity. It easily absorbs carbon dioxide and moisture from the air, reacts with water to form calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH) 2 ) and generates a lot of heat, which is corrosive. Industrial calcium oxide with a content of ≥85.0% is mainly used in smelting and environmental protection industries, such as smelting steel, stainless steel, ferromanganese (medium manganese), soldering iron and other ferroalloy castings, hot metal desulfurization, sewage treatment, soil improvement agents, etc.
